Jacob Binney, March 13, 2024

Follow the recommendations of a Woof specialist to take care of your pet’s health during the summer

The hottest season of the year can be the most fun for our pets if we take all the necessary precautions to take care of their health and protect them from the intense summer sun top-rated family pets.

To give you expert advice, we looked to our friends at Woof Spaw and this is what they told us. Put these recommendations into practice and share them with your friends:

Keep him hydrated and well fed
Leave a bowl of clean, fresh water within reach of your pet at home. If you go out for a walk, it is best to carry water in a canine tomato to hydrate him when he needs it.

Although there is no specific amount of water that they should consume, it is recommended not to exceed 90 milliliters per kg of weight per day, in the case of dogs, and 45 milliliters per kg of weight per day, in the case of dogs. of cats.

Also remember that, like us, pets hydrate by consuming water and also through their food. So you probably drink less water if you eat foods with a lot of moisture like meats, fruits and vegetables.

Provide a cool place for them to rest
It is important that your pet has a ventilated space protected from the sun where it can rest. You could also place a cool mat that will provide relief to hotter pets.

Do not expose it to the sun directly and protect its pads
Avoid taking your pet for a walk during times of the day when the heat is most intense (between 10 am and 4 pm). He could suffer from heat stroke and the hot asphalt could hurt his paws. It is advisable to apply a protective balm to the pads before going for a walk.

Never leave him locked in the car
Never leave your pet locked in a car, especially if it is parked in the sun. In just minutes the temperature can increase and have serious consequences for your health.

For brachycephalic pets
If our pet is a Brachycephalic breed such as Bulldog, Pug, Boston terrier, Shih tzu, Persian cat, etc., we must avoid intense exercise and stressful situations. In the case of dogs, baths should be with fresh water, not warm or hot, as any of these conditions could trigger heat stroke.
